![]() Mine began, back in my 20's, as severe grand-mal seizures, often three right in a row, or at least within hours of one another. And I've learned that a patient isn't necessarily "married to" any one specific form of seizure. I've had epilepsy in several forms for over 35 years, and can pretty much define what category they fall into. ![]() I don't want to wake up in a Nicaraguan hospital. I need to see the doc about my meds since the 1000mg of Lamictal isn't working as well but I am leaving the country for work in a few weeks and am not returning until January I don't want to tweak my meds in a third world country. Sorry if I got a little long winded but I'm a little desperate to know. The sweat I wake up to at night on these occasions and after a seizure as well could gag a maggot. Nice job for a epileptic, huh? I'm no stranger to sweating but it is a totally different smell. I am a pyrotechnician so I work outdoors a lot and the work can be strenuous. This is similar to when I come out of a gran-mal. This is kind of embarrassing but I stink. When I wake up soaking wet there is a smell. After a gran-mal I can't walk for a couple of hours without doing a face plant. Naturally I'm a little confused because it's 4am but I can stand up pretty well. When I say I wake up sweating, I mean it's from head to toe and I have to change my sheets, pillow cases, yada, yada. After those I don't know if I'm standing up, laying down, or standing on my head (with the exception of the last one when a fell backwards into the bathtub and came to bent in half with my toes touching my nose) and can't move my extremities for a little bit afterwards. Basically, when I wake up I don't have the confusion as after the "big ones". After the last one my pulse was still at around 200bpm 45 minutes after I was able to get up and figure out where I was. I do know when I come out of a seizure I look like someone dumped a bucket of water on me but after a gran-mal I usually have to go to the hospital and get slammed full of Ativan. I do know I'm a violent sleeper because I wake up hanging off of the bed so I have no idea if anything is different. I have nobody to tell me what is going on while I'm asleep. I just thought I would ask some of you what some of the issues of nocturnal seizures. I have CHRONIC insomnia and that (along with loss of appetite) seems to be a severe trigger. ![]() I've had three gran-mal seizures in the past month alone and have had a dramatic increase in myoclonic jerks. I have had fairly good luck with my meds but I have started having some problems. I was diagnosed with epilepsy about nine years ago I guess after having a few gran-mal episodes.
